Arts and Crafts

We offer arts classes for all ages (5 and up). Students can learn to draw cartoons, learn to draw animals, graphic design, acrylic painting, colored pencils and many more techniques!. We have something FUN for everyone!

We offer classes and camps with Young Rembrandts and Donna Roskamp.

Are you 11 years old or older and want to get certified for babysitting? Teens will learn great babysitting games, answers to common questions, how to stop sibling squabbling, meal time tips, first aid, diaper duties and much more! This class is guaranteed to be fun and exciting for all kids! Each participant will receive a certificate of completion through Heartbeat LLC and certification through the American Heart Association.

Do you want to create great memories with family and friends? Pinz Bowling Center is the destination for family fun. They feature 28 state of the art bowling lanes with automatic bumpers just for kids.

They offer activities for all ages! Classes/leagues include Middle School Bowling Club, Family Doubles, Pizza Pals, Pizza Bumpers, and Zookeepers Bowling.

Bricks 4 Kids - Lego


Join Bricks 4 Kidz for a Lego® S.T.E.M. experience! There projects, designed by engineers and architects, motivate children by reinforcing S.T.E.M. based principles while enhancing self-esteem, improving fine motor skills, and teaching important math skills. There Lego® models use axles, pulleys, gears and are fully MOTORIZED.  They will build vehicles, contraptions, inventions, animals and much more. Come join the educational fun! Learn, Build, Play with LEGO® bricks!

Champion Force Athletics is a fun and exciting cheer program for students ages 4 — 18 with or without previous experience. Students will learn jumps, kicks, arm motions, stunting, cheers and chants, and learn a pom dance routine. Students will learn the necessary skills needed for school cheerleading try-outs. Our program works to build self confidence, poise, self esteem, and physical fitness.

Dance and Acting


We offer classes and camps through The Studio which has been rated as a "People's Choice" award winner for the area's top dance studio. They are committed to offering programs designed to strengthen the body and mind, build self confidence and teach discipline in unique and creative ways. Dance classes for ages 2 ½ to 18! There are classes for all ages and all types of styles. Join The Studio for Bounce and Boogie, Everything Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and much more. There are also summer camps for budding actors/actresses (Lights, Camera, ACting!), an Enchanted Princess Party, Camp Love to Dance and an American Girl Doll event. Back by popular demand is the Moana Polynesian Summer Camp offered by The American Dance Academy for ages 5 - 12. Enjoy five days filled with everything Polynesian.Learn all the different styles of hawaiian dancing including chants, using hawaiian implements, traditional and modern hulas. Each day will celebrate Moana learning the language, crafts and stories from the Pacific Islands. A snack will be included. Just wear comfortable clothes - a Hawaiian sarong will be provided.  A special keepsake photo memory book for everyone to take home and performance for family and friends on the last day.

NEW for Spring/Summer 2018 are Musical Theatre workshops (Alice in Wonderland) and a week long camp (Trolls) with The Traveling Trainers! The workshops and camp will focus on dance technique, singing techniques, basic and intermediate theater, public speaking skills, improvisation, as well as other performing arts techniques.The sessions will end with a culminating performance where parents, friends, and family can come see the tools and skills as well as scenes, songs and dances that the students will learn with us.

This sport involves the performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, power, agility, coordination, and balance.  Jayne Lapham has 30+ years of teaching experience.  Jayne's accomplishments include 2nd in the MAG State Finals on the balance beam.  She has competed in both the U.S. and Canada.  Jayne teaches at Levels 1, 2 and 3 with smaller class sizes.

Horseback Riding


SLARA partners with Wildwind Equestrian Center for a variety of equestrian classes. Wildwind was awarded the Observer Newspaper Best Stable for 6 years in a row and it is right here in South Lyon! Wildwind Equestrian Center is owned by head trainer Vikki Gartner and business manager Cindy Richards. The classes and camps range from Tiny Tot Lessons (ages 4-6) to Senior riding Lessons (ages 50+). For more detailed course descriptions, please visit

Ice Skating/Hockey


The USA Hockey Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Plymouth Township. Originally known as Compuware Sports Arena, it was renamed to USA Hockey Arena in 2015 when the USA Hockey Foundation purchased the arena. They offer both Learn to Skate (ages 3 and up) and Learn to Play Hockey (ages 6 and up). Beginner skaters are introduced to the basic skating technique in a safe and controlled environment. Each class session is progressive, building upon skills taught in the previous session.  Hockey students will be evaluated during the first class and divided into groups based on skill level and age.  Emphasis will be on stick handling, passing and shooting.  Must have proper hockey equipment.

Please note: Enrollment in Learn to Skate classes requires a $16 yearly membership to Learn to Skate USA (new and renewing memberships are valid now through 5/31/19).  All skaters must have a membership before skating on the ice. This fee is paid to the arena on the first day. AND all participants enrolled in Learn to Play Hockey must register for a USA Hockey membership online at  This is a $45 yearly membership fee and must be completed prior to Learn to Play Hockey registration.  Please bring a copy of your confirmation on the first day. Full hockey equipment is required.

Mad Science


Mad Science of Detroit is part of a network of locations around the world, who bring science education to millions of children each year. There innovative programs help kids learn about science through their fun after school programs, preschool programs, and camps.

Mad Science encourages scientific literacy in children in an age when science is as vital as reading, writing and arithmetic and we don’t stop there.

For 30 years, the Mad Science group has invested in research and development and continues to do so. They believe in the importance of being at the forefront of our industry and continue to create hands-on science programming for kids.

Martial Arts

Martial arts aids in the development of character and mental strength.  We offer Choi Kwang-Do and Tae Kwon Do for all ages. Classes are for ages 3 thru Adult and are taught in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Safety Town


Safety Town (age approx. 5 years old entering kindergarten)

Educate your upcoming kindergartner with several authentic, hands-on, interactive lessons on…Home and Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, Water Safety, Booster Seat Safety, Bike and Pedestrian Safety, Stranger Danger.

Big Kids Safety Town (age 6-11)

Parents have the critical duty to keep their children safe.  But parents can’t always be present, so BIG KIDS Safety Town discusses safety topics so your children can make informed decisions and act wisely on their own.  Topics include:  Cyber Safety, Bullying, Personal Safety, Poison Safety, Stranger Safety, Sports/Playground Safety, Drugs/Alcohol,  If you are lost…, Avoiding Fights, Someone Stealing, Gun Safety, etc… If your child enjoyed Safety Town, they’ll love BIG KIDS Safety Town!

Learn to sew by choosing from a variety of workshops geared toward the beginner student.  All classes are suitable for a parent and child to take together. Students should bring their own sewing machine and manual if possible. A limited number of machines are available to use upon request on a first come first serve. Please contact the SLARA office to reserve a machine. Please bring all supplies to class. A detailed supply list will be emailed after registration.
