South Lyon Area Recreation Authority offers a variety of Aquatics programs. The water temperature at the South Lyon High School Pool is typically kept between 81-84 degrees.
School District policy requires everyone to shower before entering the pool.
If class is cancelled due to weather, mechanical failure or other unexpected problems, an effort will be made to schedule a make-up class is the schedule allows.
If it is not possible to provide a make up class, no partial refunds will be given.
Community Open & Lap Swim
All Open/Lap Swim sessions are pay-as-you-go programs on a first come, first serve basis. In order to provide adequate supervision, SLARA and Lifeguards on duty reserve the right to limit the number of swimmers at any activity (at any time). Groups of 8 or more must call the Recreation Office at least 1 week in advance of visit. NOTE: Times are subject to change. Any changes will be posted at the pool, in the SLARA office and online at www.slrec.net.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Children under 4 foot must have parent/adult within arms reach in the pool
Children 2 and under swim FREE!

Children Group Swim Lessons
The SLARA is offering a wide variety of swim classes based on the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. Progression from one level to the next will be based up on the student’s skill level and readiness to learn. All classes have enrollment limits. Registration must be done in advance with the Recreation Office. Due to circumstances beyond our control, it may be necessary to reschedule or cancel some swim lessons.
Private Swim Lessons
These lessons are on a first come, first served basis with limited spaces available. Please remember to make sure you have an on-line account with SLARA and a valid password in order to register. You will be unable to obtain a new account, make changes to an existing account or obtain a valid password outside of business hours.
Registration for all Fall 2019 Private Swim Lessons opens online at 8:00 am on Monday, August 19!

Aqua Fitness Classes
Workout in the water to improve all major components of physical fitness without joint-jarring impact and overheating experienced on land! Balance and range of motion are also addressed during these classes.
All fitness levels are welcome. The water’s resistance provides for muscle toning of every muscle at every angle, in every direction! Cardiovascular stimulation is emphasized in each session with options given to suit everyone’s fitness level.
These classes are conducted in chest-deep water, so no swimming skills are required.

Miscellaneous Aquatic Offerings
Middle School Stroke Improvement Clinic
A spring swim clinic geared towards competitive swimmers who are interested in improving their stroke techniques. Clinic will focus on the 4 competitive swim strokes plus starts and turns. This is NOT a learn to swim program. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards without stopping.

American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED Training ~ Adult & Pediatric
This course will prepare you to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. Upon successful completion of this course you will recieve a digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR/AED valid for two years. Please dress in comfortable clothing as skills are performed on the floor.
Days: Thursday & Friday, March 12 - 13
Time: 5:30 - 9:00 pm
Ages: 15 & Up

Lifeguard Training Blended Learning Format
This course certifies successful participants in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First-Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The blended learning course requires participants to attend both "in-person" days and complete online coursework prior to the first day of class. A Xerox black and white copy of the lifeguard manual is available (free of charge) at SLARA starting March 2nd. All participants are required to have the current lifeguard manual.
